Payload and Manual Control Enhancements

Manual control requires instant action, whether you're rapidly repositioning during a security incident or transiting quickly to a target before performing slow, precise inspection adjustments. These critical moments cannot be wasted on multi-step workflows or dashboard navigation.

We have streamlined the operational steps by introducing four interconnected improvements to manual control, designed to make your high-stakes manual operations immediate and intuitive.

1. Unified Take Control

What changed: The Take Control button now grants both drone control and payload control simultaneously.

Previously, gaining manual and payload control required two separate actions. Now, pressing Take Control on the drone panel grants complete operational authority over the drone and all attached payloads with a single click.

You can still press Take Control specifically on the payload panel if you only need camera control (e.g., pilot handles flight, you handle the camera).

2. Default Peripheral Selection

What changed: Configure your preferred control peripherals once in settings; they activate automatically when manual controls are unlocked.

This change reduces the steps required to begin manual flight from four to two:

  1. Take Control

  2. Unlock Manual Controls

  3. Your configured peripherals activate automatically.

Configuration Location:

Go to settings and under flight configuration, select:

  • Preferred peripheral for drone control (Mouse, Keyboard, Joystick, or Joypad)

  • Preferred peripheral for payload control (Mouse, Keyboard, Joystick, or Joypad

3. Instant Speed Mode Toggle

What changed: Switch instantly between your configured high-speed and low-speed values with a single input.

Toggle instantly during flight to enable high-speed for covering distance or disable it for low-speed when making precise adjustments.

How to Toggle:

  • Mouse: Click the speedometer icon in the manual control panel.

  • Keyboard: Press X.

  • Joystick/Joypad: Refer to the Key Bindings in Settings.

Note for Existing Users: Your current speed settings will automatically become your low-speed mode values when this update is deployed. You can configure the high-speed values in the settings whenever you need faster transit speeds.

Changes made on the Settings page do not automatically apply to your current Operations or Cockpit View session. After updating speed values or peripheral preferences in Settings, you must refresh your Operations/Cockpit View page for the changes to take effect.

This is important: the Settings page opens in a separate view. Simply switching back to Operations/Cockpit View after making changes is not sufficient—you must explicitly refresh the page (browser refresh, F5, or the reload button).

Workflow:

  1. Open Settings → Flight Configuration

  2. Configure speed values and peripheral preferences

  3. Refresh your Operations/Cockpit View page

  4. Settings are now active

4. Quick Lens Switching

What changed: Change camera lenses (Wide, Zoom, Thermal) using keyboard number shortcuts instead of navigating the dashboard.

Keyboard shortcuts:

  • 1 Wide lens

  • 2 Zoom lens

  • 3 Thermal/IR lens

This shortcut works universally across all Dock types (Dock 1, 2, 3) and is independent of your active peripheral or whether manual controls are unlocked.
